“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” -Lazarus Long
I have always taken the above quote from one of my favorite science fiction characters to heart, and while there are a few things on that list I am not able to do, the general principle has always guided me: The more you know and do, the more human you are. This is just one of the many things that Robert A. Heinlein taught me through his fiction.
